Warmth Matters in action

Our Warmth Matters team sprang into action following two urgent requests for help from Surrey Coalition of Disabled People and a good neighbour scheme in rural Surrey.

After her heating stopped working, a member of Surrey Coalition contacted the charity to ask for help as it would be some time before it was repaired and she was extremely cold. Low temperatures can be particularly dangerous for anyone with a disability so our Warmth Matters team arranged the delivery of an electric fan heater and an electric blanket to help her to stay warm.

The following week, a good neighbour scheme contacted our Good Neighbour Scheme Co-ordinator to raise concerns about a local resident, in her 90’s, whose boiler had broken in the summer and who was without heating and had limited hot water. Once again, our Warmth Matters team responded quickly to provide an electric blanket, warm clothing and other items to help keep her warm, as well as providing information about further help and support.
