Hoe Valley Helping Hand, a newly established good neighbour scheme for people living in Old Woking, Kingfield, Westfield and Sutton Green, is calling on community spirited residents to join the group as volunteers.
The scheme will offer community-based support for people who need help with some of the basics of day-to-day living, or who may not have easy access to transport.
Volunteers are now needed to provide:
• Transport to visit friends or to attend doctor, dentist, hospital or optician appointments
• Help with shopping
• Prescription collection
• Help with contacting clients and volunteers using the scheme’s phone, in their own home.
Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they choose, as well as decide the days and times during which they are available.
In return, volunteers are rewarded with the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping elderly neighbours to live independently for longer. Feedback such as “This is the first time I have been out for six months” and “What would we do without you? We are so grateful for all you do” makes a little bit of effort very worthwhile.
Anyone interested in finding out more about joining Hoe Valley Helping Hand as a volunteer is invited to get in touch with Surrey Community Action’s Good Neighbour Scheme Co-ordinator on 01483 447101 or email [email protected]
