Over 160 people took the opportunity to find out more about how community led housing could help to provide more affordable homes in their communities, at roadshow events in Guildford and Leatherhead this week run by the Surrey Community Housing Partnership.
Community led housing is quickly gaining momentum across the country with a rapidly growing number of successful schemes delivering affordable homes for local people which are not for profit.
The Surrey Community Housing Partnership was formed by Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking district and borough councils to promote and support community led housing in Surrey and is led by local charity, Surrey Community Action.
The Partnership is now encouraging people who are interested in being part of a self-build group to pre-register for a forum which will take place later this spring. Self-build groups build their houses together, sharing skills and trades and knowledge and the forum will provide more information about the support, resources and funding available to help communities to build their own affordable homes in Surrey.
