Gypsy and Traveller Support
Covid-19 update: We are currently unable to provide advice in person. Our Community Development Office is operating a telephone advice line five days a week to help the Gypsy & Traveller Community with benefit, housing or self-employment grant enquiries as well as answer queries about the latest government advice on the lockdown.
This project is dedicated to providing short term floating support to vulnerable adults who are Gypsies and/or Travellers in need of a housing-related support service in order to maintain their independence.
Our aim is to enhance quality of life by providing access to advice, training, funding and advocacy.
This service is initiated by referrals, which are received from a diverse range of organisations and groups, both statutory and voluntary. The post involves working closely with Traveller Education and Local Housing Authorities in order to provide the information and support required by the community.
The Project can work with 15 cases at one time and also provides telephone advice to both members of the community and other agencies.
The Project has been a great success, regularly with a waiting list of clients requiring support around finance or housing, and has supported 70 families to date.
