Case Study: Tandridge
Celia from Oxted has been a client of Oxted and District Link for the last six years and has limited mobility. Celia says: “I have a bus pass but it’s difficult for me to even walk to the bus stop from my flat. Oxted and District Link helps me to stay independent. It’s reassuring to know that there’s someone willing to take me to the health centre and I couldn’t manage without it.”
Rhoderick is a volunteer driver for Oxted and District Link and helps local people like Celia to get out and about. “I volunteered to drive for half a day per fortnight initially but I found that I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to help out more regularly” he says. “I feel a better person for it and I know that this is what I want to do for my community.”
Becoming a volunteer driver is easy and volunteers can give as much or as little time as they choose, as well as decide the days and times during which they are available.
