Case Study: Mole Valley
Barbara, 88, from Ashtead became a client of Ashtead Good Neighbours after an eye condition meant she could no longer keep her driving licence. Barbara says: “It never dawned on me, the things that I wouldn’t be able to do after I stopped driving. It was a big, big loss but it’s good to know that I have Ashtead Good Neighbours to call on whenever I need to get to the surgery or to the optician.”
Marian is a volunteer driver for Ashtead Good Neighbours and helps local people like Barbara to get out and about. “Sometimes the only people our clients see are our volunteers” she says. “But many of our volunteers are getting older themselves so we really need more people to join our scheme and give up a little time every now and again to help others like Barbara.”
Becoming a volunteer driver is easy and volunteers can give as much or as little time as they choose, as well as decide the days and times during which they are available.
