A CLP is a process that engages local people in debate
about their local area in order to improve the well
being of the community. It encourages them to:
o Identify local needs
o Develop local solutions
o Have real influence with decision makers
The process involves different types of consultation
and debate so that each and every resident can participate
and results in very high levels of participation.
The final report covers the social, economic, environmental
and cultural well-being of the community and includes
an action plan which identifies:
•
Actions the community can take forward itself
•
Actions that need external support to achieve
•
Actions that require external influence over long
term statutory plans
Community Led Planning is now the aspiration within
government policy for all communities. It is central
to the challenge presented to local government in
building empowered communities everywhere and could
be an essential building block for the Big Society.
