Surrey
Community Action is an independent registered charity working
with Surrey communities to strengthen voluntary action. It
was originally established in 1950 and constituted as a charitable
company limited by guarantee in May 1996.
Our current activities are focused
in two areas:
- working with communities
- providing support advice and training
to voluntary organisations across Surrey
One of our most successful project
is the development of a Training Programme for the voluntary
sector, but others include specific rural focused projects
such as Parish Planning.
Our Mission is:-
- To work with communities to enhance
the quality of life for people in Surrey by promoting,
supporting and strengthening voluntary action
Our Aims are:-
- To raise the profile and perceived
value of volunteering and to encourage the development
of effective voluntary organisations in Surrey
- To encourage, promote and support
active involvement by local people in their own communities/environment,
buildings and transport, village halls and shops
- To promote effective communication
and active partnership between statutory bodies, the corporate
sector and voluntary organisations
- To raise awareness of the needs
of communities in Surrey, particularly at regional, national
and European levels
- To provide improved information
and communication across the voluntary sector by acting
as a sign-posting vehicle to the best source of help, advice,
information and funding
- To provide training and development
courses for the voluntary organisations through mentoring
and accredited learning where appropriate
- To provide a brokerage and support
service to the voluntary sector focusing on equipment,
IT, corporate volunteers and professional services
